History of Comic Cove
Comic Cove is a comic bookstore located at 528 Westerly Parkway in State College, Pennsylvania.
The store was opened in April 2024 by Army veteran Justin Behrens and his wife, Liza. Justin's passion for comic books began during his childhood and was further nurtured while he served in Iraq, where family and friends would send him various comics. The Behrens established Comic Cove with the mission to make comics affordable and accessible to all, inspired by Alan Moore's desire to return comics to the middle class. The store offers a wide selection of new and vintage comic books, as well as Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering trading cards. Additionally, Comic Cove plans to build dedicated spaces for card game tournaments to foster community engagement.
Situated near State College High School, the store's location was strategically chosen to attract younger readers and revitalize the shopping center. Justin Behrens expressed a desire to create a community-focused space, stating, 'I'm looking to do a whole bunch of other things and community outreach than just be a comic books store.'
Since its opening, Comic Cove has actively participated in local events, such as hosting local comic book creators and participating in the Happy Valley Comic and Collectibles Convention (HVC3), contributing to the vibrant comic book culture in the State College area.
History of Living Water
At Living Water Connections , we believe in the power of stories to inspire, heal, and bring joy. Our journey began with a heartfelt mission: to brighten the days of children in hospitals through the magic of comics.
This initiative was sparked by an Eagle Scout project from a young patient who experienced hospital life firsthand. Wanting to make a difference for others going through similar challenges, they set out to create a unique way to bring smiles to hospital rooms.
Together with Comic Cove, we launched a program to distribute free comic book newspapers filled with fun, adventure, and imagination. Each edition is carefully sanitized and sealed for safety, ensuring young readers can enjoy them worry-free. We also bring comic artists and writers to hospitals for special signings and visits, making storytelling a truly interactive experience.
Since our start, we've expanded to 10 hospitals and counting, reaching hundreds of young patients every quarter. With the help of
local artists, writers, and community supporters, we continue to grow, spreading hope one comic at a time.
